Florida Should Reverse Unfortunate Lead in Dropouts

Daytona Beach News-Journal – A State Of Failure:  Noting the new “Everyone Graduates” project report from Johns Hopkins University which shows that at 185 high schools — 41 percent of all Florida high schools — fewer than two-thirds of ninth graders will earn a diploma, the opinion is that state leaders should accept federal aid intended to help districts bring the graduation rates up, such as “federal rule waivers for struggling school districts that allow them to direct money into dropout-prevention programs and grants to communities that come up with innovative ways to boost graduation rates”.  But it can’t be done until, the newspaper says “state education officials come clean about Florida’s true track record”.
