Principal Perry Testifies to the Benefits of Urban Debate

By December 21, 2009No Comments

The Duval Urban Debate program is no ordinary “off-the-shelve product”. Urban debate is designed to improve academics, literacy, character and behavior. It is evidence-based, research-driven and has been shown to work with Title 1, Special Education and other academic and behavioral needs, especially low-performing and at-risk populations. It involves not only students, teachers and the school environment, it also involves the family and community partners and organizations.
It is a versatile program that can strengthen and develop the student’s intrinsic motivation to achieve and teaches the vital communication skills necessary to perform well. The Duval UDL works for  school-wide program, school improvement, comprehensive school reform, English language learners, drop-out prevention, and mentoring.

The Duval Urban Debate League runs an interactive, e-learning, speech and debate curriculum for grades PK-12th (post-secondary available upon request) for school-wide reform. All components use similar language and is concept sequenced to the classroom curricula, creating a seamless, integrated strategy.

Many thanks to Principal Daryl Perry for his strong advocacy and support of the Duval Urban Debate League.
